     The purpose of HerWorld is to introduce high school girls to the growing STEM-related fields (science, technology, engineering and math) and excite them about the career potential that exists should they choose to pursue them as career opportunities.

     Considering the numerous other initiatives focused on educating young adults on the importance of a STEM education, the staying power of the HerWorld program speaks volumes about its relevance. All the girls came away excited and inspired!

On May 5, 2012, the Parent Community Services Branch, together with parents, schools, non-profit organizations and corporate partners, will convene families of LAUSD middle and high school students to participate in the LAUSD Family Summit to be held on the campus of the University of Southern California. The Summit will provide families the information, tools, and resources necessary to support their children's pathway to college and careers. With an emphasis on the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields, the Summit will be interactive in nature and expose families to the importance of and opportunities within STEM fields.
